Beningbrough Hall… Shed

When I was a kid my dad had a shed. Pretty shabby looking thing he’d built himself from old planks, doors and windows. The tools inside were all old too. Rusty and marked, im not really sure how any of it was usable! But he used them all the same. It smelt old too, even when he’d just built it. I’ve not been there for years, maybe 40! But this shed at Beningbrough brought it all back. The smell got me first a mix of dirt and oil. Walking through the door it took me straight back to being with dad at the allotment.

I’d like to spend more time in this shed, treat it like a still life and give it some attention. But for now I have these images and how taking them made me think of happy times many years ago. I came to Beningbrough for the light in the opulent grand old rooms. I didn’t expect to find this. And for that I am very grateful. Photography is a gift.
