Durham Cathedral

My intention was to sit a while. Give it 10 minutes before picking up my camera. I wanted to look, notice, take it all in. I lasted 2 minutes… maybe! But I doubt I'm the only one that wants to start straight away! As ever it takes a little while to settle. Trying my best to ignore the obvious images and look for those smaller often overlooked scenes. I had 5 hours today - when I arrive in Durham I thought I bet it’ll feel like more like 5 minutes before I'm back here heading home. I was right. Before I knew it I was sat at the train station, writing these notes in my journal. Whilst at the cathedral I was lost in time. No work, no calls. Nothing other than absorbing this most majestic building and hunt for the scenes that grab my attention. I loved it. Theres something about exploring and making images thats incredibly addictive. Blessed to have the time to do this.

Mansion House

Another York gem. On a busy summer holiday day, it was empty. Admittedly I’m not a fan of the crazy heat we’ve been having so prefer to hide inside dark spaces! Seems on this day I was the only one. I had the galleries largely to myself for a couple of hours. Light, shadow, reflections around every corner.

Winchester

I’ve never found anything that makes me feel more present and grounded than when I’m in places like this with a camera in hand. Surrounded by light and shadow. I felt very lucky today - I had no idea there was a cathedral here. So to have a few hours spare to spend exploring was a gift.

Beatrix Potter

More work related trips and more opportunities to hunt for light. This small, beautiful house had them in abundance.

Light

I’m very fortunate that my work takes me to some incredible spaces and gives me access to places most people don’t get to see. To the rest of the crew this was a hidden stairway between galleries and a route to avoid huge crowds in the main halls. To me, bliss! 30 minutes to spend looking at the light, shadow, old stone and cobwebs.
