Film…
I’ve been interested in film photography for a while but also scared to try it! Firstly the cost, buying a camera & lens. Then the film, working out which film is best. Then the practicalities.. loading the filming and not messing it up! And then the fear… well my fear that I can’t see what I’m getting. I’ve always loved that about digital and those lovely EVF’s in which we can see exactly what we’ll get. With film… nothing, you don’t know. But you will learn in time. That’s sort of the fun. It’s a different experience. It plays heavily into the slowing down ethos of why I started photography in the first place. Way more the digital does. And it forces me to learn more too. Have an even greater understanding of light and metering. The images below are not ground breaking. They are the first images I’ve taken on a little Pentax ME super that I picked up for £60. The film - HP5+. I wanted to see if I can still retain the high contrast style I like when using film and not being able to see if what I think is happening… actually is! I think on that basis this first attempt was a success. I also love the feel of the output too. The softness, the grain, the roll off. It’s all lovely. Very happy that I gave this a go.
